About me

Alex Davitt

Although I grew up in Ireland, I have lived in the New York area for over 20 years.  While recovering from an illness, I took up painting to occupy myself, although I have had a lifelong interest in photography.   I started by painting my kids and my dog, with no expectation other than as a distraction. These portraits got a good deal of attention and it wasn’t long before I was accepting commissions.

Fascinated with faces and their different personalities, I specialize in contemporary portraits of people and animals, mostly dogs.  Working directly with clients allows for insight into each subject’s personality to successfully convey the spirit and depth of expression that is unique to each subject, creating eye-catching and memorable images.

I enjoy the work of many different artists and photographers, my favorites include David Hockney, Francesco Clemente, Richard Avedon, Irving Penn and R B Kitaj.

After many years in urban New York City, I now live in Westchester New York with my husband, three kids and black Labrador Ruthie - each an inspiration.
